Vine peach cantaloupe (Cucumis melo var. chito) is also known simply as vine peach. The fruit is about the same size and color as a peach.
While it is a melon, it grows on a vine and produces small, peach-shaped, peach-sized fruits. These grow like regular muskmelon but need less space.
The fruit make excellent jams, jellies, preserves, pies and cakes and have a vine-flavor and texture much like mango.
The small baseball size melons are highly aromatic with a mild flavor when grown in rich soil. They are very hardy, drought tolerant and mostly insect resistant.
Vine peach are usually ready for harvest in 60 to 90 days. Once the fruit is ripe, the stem should separate from the vine peach easily.
