Cynometra cauliflora L. is classify under family of Fabaceae or Leguminosae and Caesalpiniaceae. It is typically found in eastern and northern parts of Peninsular Malaysia, South-east Asia, and India. It is also commonly known by local as Nam-Nam or Buah Katak Puru in Malaysia.
It is a homegrown fruit-bearing tree that is found primarily in rural areas of Peninsular Malaysia. The fruit which are kidney-shape pod, greenish yellow to brown, with a sandy and wrinkled surface can be consumed as fruit salad.
The recorded height of C. cauliflora spans from 3 meters to 15 meters. The C. cauliflora tree gets its local name because of the shrubby fruit and brownish green colour of the fruit’s skin. Old folks believe that this plant can treat high blood pressure and diabetes.
Some studies also have shown that plants C. cauliflora is known to be rich in biological activities such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, cytotoxic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antitumor and anti-diabetic.
