Fruit can reduce the chances of developing cataract

Eating a lot fruits and vegetables can help keep human eyes in good condition. Fruits and vegetables can help prevent two age relate eye disorders, cataracts and macular degeneration.

A cataract is an age-related thickening of the lens of the eye that impairs vision. Surgical removal of the cataract will prevent blindness, but good nutrition can reduce the chances of developing cataracts. More than half of all Americans age 80 and older have cataracts.

Oxidative stress plays a big role in the development of cataracts. A diet rich in antioxidants foods or fruits can reduce risk of cataracts. Specifically fruits high in vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin E have been known to decrease cataract development.

Numerous studies have observed that people with high dietary intakes or blood levels of antioxidants – particularly vitamin C an E are at significantly lower risk of cataracts.
